You are invited to the next session of the Biological Interest Group on Monday 20th January. As usual it will be held in the seminar room at Byrne House, from 1-2pm. Participants can bring lunch and drinks if they wish.

Ann-Sophie Barwich will be returning to Exeter to present the “A Fine Nose for Timeliness: The Discovery of The Olfactory Receptors and Its Role within the Life of an Emerging Experimental System.” This is a first and very recent draft intended for the call for papers for the Philosophy of Science Association biennial meeting, where the word limit is 5000 (incl. abstract and references). As Ann is already a little over the limit, she would appreciate any help where to shorten it. Otherwise she is very interested in what parts of the paper, especially the philosophical argument, need further clarification or would best be further explored in a second paper. Ann says she is very much looking forward to critical comments., but that positive ones are also welcomed!

To obtain the paper, or for any other information, please email Jim Lowe at jwel201 [at] ex.ac.uk

With apologies for the delay of the paper, attached is the reading for the scheduled meeting of the Biological Interest Group  this coming Monday, 13th January. As usual it will be held in the Seminar Room in Byrne House, from 1-2pm, and participants may bring food and drink with them.

Tarquin Holmes will be presenting a paper entitled “What was the Contribution of ‘Science’ to 18th Century Livestock Improvements and who did the Contributing?”. As this is a work in progress, please do not circulate without Tarquin’s express permission. Please note that despite the short time before the meeting, the work is a little shorter than most BIG papers, so hopefully many regular participants will be able to find the time to read it ahead of the meeting.

To obtain the paper, or for any other information, please email Jim Lowe at jwel201 [at] ex.ac.uk
