Jo Donaghy will be leading the session, which will be based on a draft of a paper ultimately intended for publication in Studies in the History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences after receiving feedback from the group. As well as comments on the content and argument Jo would also be grateful for feedback about readability and how she can bring the word count down.

Monday 21st October – 1-2pm – Seminar Room, Byrne House

October 12, 2013 Leave a comment

You are invited to this term’s first session of the Biological Interest Group on Monday 21st October. As usual it will be held in the seminar room at Byrne House, from 1-2pm. Participants can bring lunch and drinks if they wish.

Paul Griffiths will be leading the session, which will be based on a rough draft of a paper designed to explain the idea of Crick Information and its significance. Paul sees it as a sort of abstract of one of the main arguments that runs more diffusely through the recent book (Genetics and Philosophy: An Introduction, Cambridge University Press, 2013) he wrote with Karola Stotz. What he wants to get out of this session is to find how he can communicate this idea more succinctly and effectively.

The article can be obtained by emailing Jim Lowe at jwel201 [at] ex.ac.uk – As it is a work in preparation please do not disseminate further without Prof. Griffiths’ express permission.

You are invited to this term’s first session of the Biological Interest Group on Monday 7th October. As usual it will be held in the seminar room at Byrne House, from 1-2pm. Participants can bring lunch and drinks if they wish.

Giovanna Colombetti will be leading the session, which will be based on a draft paper co-authored with Joel Krueger entitled ‘Scaffoldings of the affective mind’. Giovanna is looking forward to the discussion and comments on this work, particularly as it is a preliminary draft and still needs cutting and refining. She hopes that participants may have insights on how to deal with the issues raised in the last section. Giovanna and Joel have annotated the work with comments in the margin to flag up other areas participants may wish to comment on.

The article can be obtained by emailing Jim Lowe at jwel201 [at] ex.ac.uk – As it is a work in preparation please do not disseminate further without Dr. Colombetti and Dr. Krueger’s express permission.
